Triple N Ranch Wildlife Management Area

A southern walk-in entrance is now available at the end of Crabgrass Road (right next to the entrance to Bull Creek WMA).

The state has recently purchased more land south of Triple-N-Ranch between Bull Creek WMA and US Hwy 441. Farm buildings like this old barn are still located on the property.

Location

Located in Osceola County near Holopaw, Florida.

Directions

From I-95, get off at exit 71 and head west on U.S. Hwy 192 for about 20 miles. Look for the brown Triple-N-Ranch WMA sign on your right. The entrance will be on your left.

Hiking

The hiking trails at Triple-N-Ranch consist of 3 loops, all starting at the kiosk near the park entrance.  A 2 mile, white-blazed trail called the Flatwoods Loop runs along the edge of a cypress dome and follows an old fire break to the edge of the Crabgrass Creek flood plane before looping back. A 2.5 mile, yellow-blazed trail called  the Crabgrass Creek Loop picks up where the white-blazed trail left off and takes the hiker across Crabgrass Creek through beautiful hydric hammocks before looping back on itself. A 7.5 mile, orange-blazed trail called the Triple N Loop passes through a little of everything from pine flatwoods and oak scrub to scenic hammocks along Crabgrass Creek. Both the Yellow and Orange trails are seasonal meaning some sections could be underwater. There's a picnic area with one table located about half-way along the Triple N Loop. Look for a short blue-blazed spur trail to take you there.

Wildlife

A bobcat and a Florida longhorn trying to hide in the palmetto thickets. Note: Most of the longhorns were rounded up and removed from the WMA a few years ago.

Local Weather

Conditions

• 20-Oct-2007: Most of the trails have been mowed except for a small section of the white blazed trail near the cypress dome and a section along the orange blazed trail between the feedlot and the pine hammock to the north. A lot of lopping still needs to be done around Crabgrass Creek. Trails are mostly dry right now.
• 06-Oct-2001: Cows were a bit laid back today. Biked around a few just laying in the middle of the road. Spotted lots of deer and wild turkeys running about. Some of the unimproved roads are still drying out from all the rain. Road 7 is closed due to muddy conditions.  

• 12-Aug-2001: Roads are a little wet with a few puddles here and there. Expect lots of mosquitoes and horse flies. Muscadine grapes are in season. Yummm!
• 21-Apr-2001: Most of the roads are in good condition except for a few soft spots south-east of Crabgrass Creek.
